Running Update

I'm not really doing the official Couch to 5K thing anymore. With the 5K this weekend, I've just been trying to up my distance on my own.

We were lazy the rest of last week. Finally, we went for a run on Sunday. Alec suggested that we try 2.5 miles. This did not go well. It was very windy, for one thing (and I thought Oklahoma was "where the wind comes sweeping down the plains"!) and it was a cold wind, which bothered my ears. So, I had kind of a meltdown around mile 1. Not pretty. I walked a lot and ended up finishing the 2.5 miles in 33:49. Which is actually a fairly respectable 13:31 pace. I hadn't figured that out until just now. Which is actually a bit faster than we want for the 1/2 marathon. We're going for 13:44. Wow, I feel a lot better about myself.

Today, we did the 2.5 mile route again. I still walked quite a bit, but I shaved a whopping 20 seconds off my time and finished in 33:29. That averages out to 13:20 minute miles.

I'm still not sure I'm going to be able to run the whole way on Saturday, but we'll see.

Wow-- way to go! This is a big accomplishment! Be sure to be proud of what you've achieved-- and remind your husband-- a seasoned marathoner-- that you're coming along nicely!
